Reflections on the Last Two Weeks of Sprint for Wisp

Sprint Review

In this blog post, I’ll be doing a quick reflection over the last two weeks of our sprint, sharing some key insights, wins, and areas for improvement. If you prefer a video format, you can check out the full video here.

Sprint Overview

In this sprint, we introduced some significant enhancements and gathered data that will help us make better decisions moving forward. Here's a breakdown of the noteworthy updates and progress:

Key Features Delivered

1. AI-Powered Automatic CTA Suggestion

We implemented a Contextual CTA feature that automatically matches a call to action (CTA) to each article based on its content. For instance, if an article talks about the "Best Headless CMS for Freelancers," the CTA could be "Are you choosing CMS? Try out Wisp!" This ensures that our CTAs are relevant and engaging.

2. Powered by WISP Attribution

To help us sustain a free forever plan while promoting Wisp, every blog running on the free version now has a "Powered by Wisp" attribution. This helps increase our brand visibility and incentivizes users to upgrade to a paid plan to remove the branding.

Internal Metrics

Our active user count increased slightly from 32 to 35, and our Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR) grew by 50%, now standing at $96. While the active user growth has been modest, the revenue improvement is a positive sign. Our total number of blog posts and users have also seen healthy upticks of 18% and 23% respectively.

Community Spotlight

We love showcasing projects utilizing Wisp. Notable mentions include:

Learning Loop: A community for early-stage founders, primarily based in Singapore but with a global reach. Their blog is powered by Wisp.

Peek.money: Created by Sherry, they are a personal finance platform to help you track, manage and grow your net worth. Their internal content library are powered by Wisp. Subscribe to get insights into managing your personal finance!

Other free users: Several users on our free plan, including a unique client like a chicken farm in Turkey, have been leveraging Wisp's features effectively.

Traffic and Conversion Insights

Observing how users land on our platform has provided some critical insights:

  • SEO traffic is growing steadily, and we have over a thousand keywords that are bringing in traffic.

  • Content from our Next.js blog template continues to drive significant traffic.

  • Organic mentions and backlinks have started cropping up, boosting our domain rating.

To better understand user behavior, we’ve improved our sign-up attribution to track where new users come from, whether it's through LinkedIn, paid ads, or blog directories.

Marketing Experiments

We have been running various experiments to identify effective channels for user acquisition. LinkedIn posts have shown promising engagement. However, Google Ads have been less successful, with zero conversions despite the spend.

User Engagement and Feedback

I’ve had enlightening conversations with several founders, which revealed that while they value CMS capabilities, they're more interested in overall content and sales strategies. This feedback is steering us towards offering more comprehensive solutions that marry content strategy with sales.

Upcoming Focus Areas

Our focus in the upcoming weeks includes:

  • Product Hunt Launch: We are gearing up for our Product Hunt launch scheduled for 2nd September. Your support would be invaluable. You can notify yourself here.

  • Founders Outreach: We’re targeting YC contacts and founders focused on high growth to offer support with content and blogging strategies.

  • Component Hub Development: Inspired by existing solutions like Shed CN, we are considering a component hub to allow the easy addition of blogs to existing Next.js sites.

  • Content Strategy Combined with Sales Outreach: Developing content strategies that align with sales efforts is a growing interest among our users. We plan to package our services to cater to this need effectively.

Interesting Tidbits

To wrap up this reflection, here's an interesting development: I recorded a podcast with Sherry, my previous co-founder from BlueJay (now Peek). We touched on topics like co-founder breakups and starting anew. Keep an eye out for that podcast!

Thank you for joining me in this reflection. Your continued support and feedback drive us forward. Stay tuned for more updates and keep building with Wisp!
